All parliamentary groups except Vox have reached an agreement to introduce the mandatory use of adjustable beds and other ergonomic measures in the tourism sector of the Canary Islands, within the framework of the modification of Law 7/1995, on Tourism Planning, whose opinion will foreseeably be approved this Wednesday in Parliament.
This is what the Minister of Tourism and Employment of the Canary Islands Government, Jéssica de León, announced this Tuesday, during an appearance in the Parliament of the Canary Islands to address the data on occupational accident rates in the archipelago.
The agreement includes the incorporation of adjustable beds and motorized carts as occupational risk prevention measures in hotel establishments, non-hotel establishments, and certain holiday home complexes.
These are measures aimed at improving the working conditions of groups such as chambermaids and reducing the physical load associated with their work.
“It is great news for parliamentarism that we agree on the fundamental issues,” De León pointed out.
The minister expressly thanked the support of the deputies who negotiated for each group, except Vox, and stressed that the consensus reached “from differences” is not common in the current political context.
The opinion on the modification of the Canary Islands Tourism Planning Law will be put to a vote tomorrow Wednesday.
