The self-employed workers of Canarias can apply since this week for aid to reconcile family and work life, after the publication in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) of the call for the ‘Concilia’ program, a new line of subsidies aimed at facilitating the reconciliation of self-employed workers on the islands.
The program, included in the Self-Employed Support Plan, developed by the Directorate General of Self-Employed Workers, contemplates aid for substitutions due to maternity, paternity, adoption, foster care, or risk during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as well as for the hiring of support in the care of minors, the elderly, or dependents, and to cover part of the cost of care services, such as nurseries or day centers.
The Concilia program contemplates three lines of aid: Concilia 1, which finances the hiring of a substitute person when the self-employed worker is on leave due to maternity, paternity, adoption, foster care, or risk during pregnancy or breastfeeding; in addition, it can support the subsequent conversion into a permanent contract with the same substitute person;
Concilia 2, which subsidizes the permanent hiring of a person to assist in the care of minor children, the elderly, or dependent persons in the charge of the self-employed worker; and Concilia 3, which covers part of the costs of centers or services for the care of minors, the elderly, or dependent persons, including certain services during school holidays or outside of school hours.
Amounts of the aid
The aid will be of up to €8,800 in cases of substitution due to risk during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as well as subsidies of up to €7,500 or €9,000 when the permanent hiring is intended for priority groups. In the case of Concilia 3, the aid will cover 75% of the cost of care services, with a maximum of €3,000.
All lines will be processed under a non-competitive regime, in order of submission and until the available credit is exhausted. Applications will be submitted through the electronic headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands.
The Vice President of the Government and Minister of Economy, Industry, Trade and Self-Employed, Manuel Domínguez, highlighted that “with this long-awaited call, a pioneer in the islands, we take another step in this Government’s commitment to the self-employed, because we know that starting and maintaining a business requires real support”. Domínguez also stressed that “work-life and family balance, hiring, and a second chance are fundamental pillars for consolidating a stronger self-employed fabric with greater capacity to generate employment in the Canary Islands”.
This call is aimed at all self-employed individuals residing in the Canary Islands, engaged in any sector and in any state, meaning new, consolidated, or growing. The aid has a retroactive character to October 18, 2025, and it is possible to hire relatives of the self-employed person.
