More than 10,000 people aspire to almost 1,000 teaching positions in the Canary Islands

A total of 10,361 people have been admitted for the selective processes that the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands will hold in the coming weeks to award 944 places.

The places are distributed in Bodies of Secondary Education Teachers (192); Official Language Schools (seven); Schools of Plastic Arts and Design (fifteen) and Specialists of Singular FP Sectors (21) and Music and Performing Arts (14), as well as for the Bodies of Professors of Music and Performing Arts (9) and of Teachers (686).

Of these, the majority (7,912) aspire to different specialties of the Body of Teachers: Infant (2,797), Primary (1,961), Therapeutic Pedagogy (1,258), Physical Education (822),  English (540), Music (232), Hearing and Language (201) and French (101).

Regarding Secondary, 1,366 applicants are presented, distributed among Administrative Management Processes (451), Clinical and Orthoprosthetic Diagnostic Procedures (154), Agrarian Production Processes (154), Construction Project Office (129), Image and Sound Techniques and Procedures (93), Clinical Diagnostic Processes and Orthoprosthetic Products (91), Analysis and Industrial Chemistry (80), Installation and Maintenance of Thermal and Fluid Equipment (75), Organization and Projects of Energy Systems (74) and Electronic Equipment (65).

For the Body of Teachers of Schools of Plastic Arts and Design, 321 people are presented for the specialties of Volume (102), Interior Design (101), Audiovisual Media (86) and Computer Media (32), while 275 people opt for the Body of Teachers of Music and Performing Arts. Specifically, for the specialties of Piano (73), Violin (51), Transverse Flute (40), Saxophone (30), Cello (26), Viola and Singing (21 applicants each), as well as for the specialties of Harpsichord and Choir (six per specialty) and Harp (1).

The only specialty called for the Body of Official Language Schools, Spanish for Foreigners, has 255 applicants, and 134 people aspire to enter the Body of Specialist Teachers of Singular Vocational Training Sectors, among Manufacturing and Installation of Carpentry and Furniture (56), Welding (46), Machining and Machine Maintenance (32).

Finally, for the Body of Catedráticos de Música y Artes Escénicas, 98 people are competing, including those aspiring to Chamber Music (43), Composition (17), Pedagogy (16), Piano (14), and Improvisation and Accompaniment (5).

 

When are the tests and how are they organized?

The tests will begin on June 20 for all bodies and specialties, except for the Body of Specialist Teachers of Singular Sectors of Vocational Training, which will begin on the 13th, due to the fact that, due to their peculiarities, they have an additional practical test, and those for access (not admission) of Spanish for Foreigners and Volume, which will take place on June 14.

For their part, the presentation ceremony, mandatory to take the tests and at which the aspiring candidates must submit the teaching program, will be on June 13, except for the Body of Specialist Teachers of Singular Sectors of Vocational Training and the Body of Teachers, who will hold them on June 6 and May 29, respectively.

Regarding the number of tribunals, most specialties will have one, except for Early Childhood Education (25), Primary Education (19), Special Educational Needs Pedagogy (13), Physical Education of the Body of Teachers (7), English Teachers (5), Music (4), Administrative Management Processes (4), Hearing and Language (2), Clinical and Orthoprosthetic Diagnostic Procedures (2), Agricultural Production Processes (2), and Spanish for Foreigners (2).

To this end, the Ministry headed by Poli Suárez has planned 28 venues on seven islands: twelve in Tenerife, eleven in Gran Canaria, and one each in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro, although the last two will only be used for the presentation ceremony, reports the Director General of Personnel and Teacher Training, Mónica Ramírez, who emphasizes "the importance of this large operation necessary to hold tests of this magnitude".
