Lanzarote, the island where unemployment fell the least in June

After accumulating three months of rising unemployment, Lanzarote has been the island in the Canary archipelago where unemployment has fallen the least in June

Unemployment fell in Lanzarote by 0.1% in June, which is equivalent to eight fewer people on the unemployment lists, after three consecutive months of increases in unemployment on the island in March, April, and May, according to data provided by the Canary Islands Employment Observatory (Obecan).

Thus, the number of unemployed currently in Lanzarote amounts to 6,821, 3.1% less than a year ago. 

At the level of all of Canary Islands, the decrease in unemployment amounts to 1.5%, equivalent to about 2,200 fewer people on the archipelago's unemployment lists. 

The Ministry of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands highlighted in a statement that the archipelago registered the lowest youth unemployment in its entire historical series. Specifically, the number of people under 25 registered as unemployed in the Canary Islands Employment Service stood at 7,266 people, 452 fewer than the previous month, a 5.86% decrease.

By provinces, Las Palmas counted 73,550 unemployed, 898 fewer than in May and 5,203 fewer than a year ago. In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, unemployment stood at 68,859 people, with a monthly decrease of 1,291 unemployed and an annual drop of 3,092 people.

In Gran Canaria and Tenerife, unemployment fell by 1.4% and 1.6% respectively in May. 

The island where unemployment fell the most during the month of June was El Hierro, with a drop of 6.6%, followed by La Gomera with 5.7%. 

Also on La Palma there was a notable decrease in people in a situation of unemployment. On the beautiful island, unemployment fell by 3.3% last month. 

The second to last island in terms of unemployment decrease was Fuerteventura, where unemployment fell by 0.3%. Lanzarote closes the table with the aforementioned decrease of 0.1%.
