Unemployment rose in Lanzarote by 2.5% in October to a total of 6,930 unemployed, which is equivalent to 166 more people on the unemployment lists, according to data provided by the Canarian Employment Observatory (Obecan).
However, compared to one year ago, there are 8.6% fewer unemployed, equivalent to 814 fewer people on the island's unemployment lists.
By sex, it rose more among men (4.1%) to 3,001 unemployed, than among women (1.2%) to 3,929 unemployed.
Unemployment soared among those under 25 (+17.5%), was close to the average for those between 25 and 44, while it rose slightly (1.1%) among those over 45.
Among the Canary Islands, unemployment only rose more in Fuerteventura, where it did so by 2.8%. In La Gomera it increased by 2.4%, while in Tenerife it rose by 2.2%, followed by La Palma (2%).
In the Canary Islands as a whole, 147,679 people were unemployed, that is, 1.59% more than in September. However, in the year-on-year variation, the behavior showed positive data: 11,819 fewer unemployed people (-7.41%) compared to October 2024.
It is also observed that the rate of long-term unemployment is decreasing. According to the latest report on the behavior of the labor market in the Canary Islands, unemployment among the long-term unemployed fell to 0.7% compared to September and 8.5% (-6,212 people) compared to data from October 2024.
