The labor market in Spain closed September with a new historical high, driven by an increase of 92,327 average affiliates compared to the previous month (+0.41%) and reaching 22.43 million contributors in the original series.

In year-on-year terms, growth stood at 3.41%, which is equivalent to 739,888 more workers. Likewise, in the seasonally adjusted series, employment added more than 108,000 people and surpassed 22.48 million, marking 68 months of continuous increase.

For its part, the Canary archipelago registered positive performance, although without reaching an absolute record specific to this month.

Average affiliation in the islands increased by 10,454 contributors compared to August (+1.09%), placing the total number of employed people at 974,256, an increase mainly supported by the hospitality and education sectors.

At the island level, official records reflect a favorable and constant evolution. Lanzarote is around 80,210 affiliations to Social Security, which represents an increase of more than 3,400 contributors compared to the same period last year.

This positive year-on-year performance contributes to softening the usual contraction of employment associated with the end of the summer period and to reducing the volume of island unemployment ahead of the start of the winter tourist season.
