The Ministry of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canary Islands Employment Service (SCE), has published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) a new call for aid that will allow unemployed young people under 30 years of age to access their first work experience in the Public Administration, through a training contract with municipal corporations or their dependent entities.
"Through this type of contract, young people will carry out professional practices appropriate to their level of studies, with a minimum duration of ten months and a maximum of twelve, to guarantee a complete work experience that allows them to develop professional skills in a real work environment," explained the Minister of Tourism and Employment, Jéssica de León.
The total amount allocated to these grants, from the Employment Opportunities and Promotion of Hiring subsidy line, amounts to four million euros. Local or municipal corporations of the Canary Islands or their dependent or related entities may apply for the subsidies, which may submit a single project. Participants in the internship program must be registered as job seekers in the offices of the Canary Islands Employment Service.
The director of the Canary Islands Employment Service (SCE), María Teresa Ortega, pointed out that “this program helps young people to obtain that first opportunity that is often difficult to achieve when you finish your studies, and also allows them to approach the Public Administration and put their knowledge and skills into practice.” In this way, she added, “they acquire professional experience that will facilitate their labor insertion later, which is one of the most important challenges of this legislature, in which the youth unemployment figure has been reduced by 11%”.
The concession procedure will be processed under a competitive regime, and the final resolution, which will include the list of beneficiaries and the amount granted, will be published on the bulletin board of the Canary Islands Employment Service.
The deadline to submit applications will remain open until September 9 in the electronic headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands.
