The Cabildo of Lanzarote approved, in the ordinary plenary session of June, the nomination of subsidies to the town councils for the Employment Plan 2026, an amount that amounts to 1.6 million euros.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, assured that this investment "is one of the priorities of this Government group". "There are many people who, program after program, access employment thanks to the work of the insular area that always ensures the stability of the residents of Lanzarote and La Graciosa," he added.

For his part, the vice-president and head of the Area of Planning and Coordination of Projects, María Jesús Tovar, stressed that the 2026 Employment Plan "is a key tool for continuing to offer job opportunities in all the municipalities of the island, also taking into account objective criteria such as population and the number of unemployed people".

The Minister of Employment, Jesús Machín Tavío, for his part, stated that this year a special effort has been made to provide positive discrimination towards people close to retirement age. "There are many people who need a few months to finish their working life, and plans like this help them to do so," he explained.

The Arrecife City Council has an amount of 607,867.03 euros, while the San Bartolomé City Council has a subsidy of 207,305.35 euros. As for the Teguise City Council, the Cabildo of Lanzarote allocates 204,571.15 euros and to the Tías City Council a total of 187,710.19 euros.

As for the Yaiza City Council, a subsidy of 158,545.29 euros is allocated for this Employment Plan; while the Tinajo City Council is granted 119,051.15 euros and the Haría City Council an amount that reaches 114,949.84 euros.

Training for employment in the agricultural sector

The Cabildo of Lanzarote also approved a modification of credit for an amount of 672,972.32 euros intended to reinforce training actions for employment linked to the agricultural and environmental sector.

The amount will allow the contracting of services for agricultural and gardening work on the plots of the Experimental Agricultural Farm of the Cabildo, within an action co-financed by the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN) and framed within Strategic Line 3 "Support for employability".

The approved file contemplates a total investment of 672,972.32 euros and will now continue with the corresponding public exhibition period and regulatory processing.
