Employment in the Canary Islands' services sector grew twice as much as at the state level in May

Meanwhile, the turnover of the services sector in the archipelago grew by 4.8% during the month of May

The figure of businesses in the market services sector registered in May in Spain an interannual increase of 5.1%, a percentage that in Canarias was 4.8%, according to the National Institute of Statistics, which announced this Friday.

At the close of the fifth month of 2026, all autonomous communities increased their business figures in the aforementioned sector compared to the same month in 2025.

Basque Country (11.4%), Andalusia (7.4%), and La Rioja (7.1%) were the ones that increased the most.

Balearic Islands (0.1%), Valencian Community (1.0%), and Castilla-La Mancha (2.8%) registered the smallest increases on an annual rate.

Canarias was in the middle of the table, where this indicator has registered an average increase of 4.4% so far this year.

Although employment in the market services sector has increased in the country as a whole by 1.1% in interannual terms, in Canarias it has risen by 2.1%, registering an average variation of 1.9% so far in 2026.

The INE also announced this Friday the business figures for the industrial sector, which nationally registered an interannual increase of 3.2% in May.

In Canarias, this indicator reflects a much higher annual variation, of 7.4%, with an average increase of 5.1% so far in 2026.
