Fundación Moeve has concluded its program of visits to the winning entities of the 2025 Social Value Awards with a meeting with CEAR Canarias (Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid), once the projects have passed their halfway point. In this regard, it has learned about the status of the 'Becas Renueva' project, an initiative that offers five former wards the possibility of training in a sector linked to the energy transition and with good employment prospects.
Thanks to the Social Value Awards, the young people assisted by CEAR Canarias, from Mali, Gambia, Senegal, and Morocco, will have economic resources to cover their accommodation, maintenance, and other basic expenses, while they focus on pursuing the Professional Certificate in Assembly and Maintenance of Solar Thermal Installations, aimed at unemployed individuals and taught by the Focan Institute.
The training itinerary, which runs from August to December, combines 475 hours of theoretical content and 145 hours of non-work-related practical training, which will allow them to obtain a professional qualification in an area related to the energy transition and with a growing demand for employment.
The head of Fundación Moeve in the Canary Islands, Belén Machado, and Jesús Méndez, a professional from Moeve and a solidarity sponsor of the project, visited the CEAR Canarias facilities in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where they were received by Juan Carlos Lorenzo, territorial coordinator of the entity, and two technicians from the organization from the Employment and Training and Marketing and Business Alliances areas. During the meeting, they were able to learn firsthand about the work the entity carries out and analyze the project's progress. They also witnessed one of the classes taught to the program's beneficiaries at the Focan Institute.
During the visit, Belén Machado highlighted the value of "an initiative whose impact goes far beyond the number of beneficiaries, which, although it might seem small at first glance, what is truly relevant is that it is a project that can truly change lives. We are sure that, with the continuous support that CEAR is providing them, if they make good use of this opportunity, the five young people will be able to forge a promising professional future in a sector with great employment potential".
“Thanks to these scholarships, they can focus on their training, without having to worry about paying rent, food, and other basic daily expenses. That peace of mind is essential to be able to concentrate all their energy on preparing themselves,” he pointed out.
For his part, Juan Carlos Lorenzo highlighted the support of the Moeve foundation through the Social Value Awards, and emphasized that “for young people who have had to face situations of special vulnerability, having a training opportunity of these characteristics means much more than accessing a course: it means having concrete tools to build a life project with greater options for autonomy”. “The scholarship allows them to eliminate the economic barrier and focus on their training during these months. The combination of professional qualification, support, and practical experience can make a real difference in their future access to employment,” he remarked.
The territorial coordinator of CEAR Canarias also valued the effort made by the five participants even before starting the professional certificate. Because Level 1 certificates in that specialty were not offered in 2026, they had to prepare and pass key competency tests to be able to access Level 2 directly. “In addition, they have prepared together to pass the previous tests, which has generated a close bond between them that will help them during their training and, surely, in their lives,” he added.
About the Social Value Awards
The Moeve foundation's Social Value Awards were created in 2005 with the aim of supporting entities working with vulnerable groups in the areas where Moeve is present. In the Canary Islands, thanks to these awards, 80 social projects have been promoted to date, with a global contribution of 862,000 euros.
CEAR Canarias, Cáritas Diocesana de Canarias, and the Sonsoles Soriano Foundation were the three entities recognized in the Archipelago in the 2025 edition, with a global allocation of 75,000 euros for the development of their initiatives throughout the current year.
The call for the 2026 Social Value Awards will be open from September 1 to 18.
