The Canary Islands is the leading community in Spain in terms of the creation of employment linked to tourist apartments this summer, above the Balearic Islands and Andalusia, which used to be in first place, according to a report by the temporary employment company Randstad.
In the Canary Islands archipelago, 11,000 people have been hired this summer to work in tourist apartments, 10% more than before the pandemic.
The Canary Islands has also been the region where hotel employment has grown the most compared to 2019, specifically 11% more, followed by the Balearic Islands, where a growth of 9% has been experienced.
In the Canary Islands, a total of about 65,000 people have been employed in the tourism sector during the summer period, 8.64% more than pre-pandemic levels.
Also nationally, this summer has been marked by the recovery of the labor market in the tourism and hotel sector. Last July experienced growth above 2019 levels, with almost 5% more contracts for professionals in the hotel sector than in the same month of the year prior to the pandemic.
