The female entrepreneurship continues gaining weight in Spain and Canary Islands consolidates as one of the communities with greater activity entrepreneurial led by women.
This is reflected in the latest data from MicroBank, CaixaBank's social bank, which reveals how the archipelago concentrates 6% of female entrepreneurship nationally, while it has 4.6% of the population.
Thus Canarias is the fifth region that contributes the most to female entrepreneurship in the country, only behind Cataluña (25.2%), followed by Andalucía (20.4%), Comunidad de Madrid (15.9%) and Comunidad Valenciana (8.9%).
According to the GEM Spain 2024-2025 Report, the Entrepreneurial Activity Rate (TEA) for women has increased from 6.1% to 6.8%, which confirms a positive evolution of entrepreneurship led by women.
Despite this, there still exist barriers for female entrepreneurship and counting on financing for the development of projects would be one of the most important.
In this regard, Caixabank highlights that "microcredits are an accessible way to help women create and consolidate their own businesses". In 2025, MicroBank, CaixaBank's social bank, granted 7,423 microcredits for female entrepreneurship throughout the country, with an investment of 145.8 million euros, which represents an increase of 13.3% compared to 2024.
The financing granted by MicroBank, with an average amount of 19,652 euros per project (15.9% more than in 2024), supported the creation of 2,890 new businesses led by women, which generated, in turn, 7,341 jobs.
Women gain weight among young entrepreneurs
Analyzing the profile of young entrepreneurs (under 30 years old) who have applied for loans to MicroBank, it is observed that women entrepreneurs continue to gain weight and in 2025 35.6% of young entrepreneurs have been women versus 34.5% in 2024.
On the other hand, women under 30 years old represent 11.2% of the global figure of entrepreneurs, increasing by one percentage point compared to 2024 (10.5%).
The presence of entrepreneurial women occurs, especially, in the sectors of restaurant industry (20%), beauty (19%) and commerce retail (19%).
