The Plenary Hall of the Cabildo of Lanzarote hosted this Tuesday, June 16, the presentation of results of the service “Accreditate your experience”, an initiative that has registered exponential growth in its last fiscal year, practically doubling the activity figures of the previous year.
The event was attended by the Minister of Education and inclusive Employment of the Cabildo, Ascensión Toledo; the Director of the Canary Institute of Professional Qualifications (ICCP), Gustavo Alberto Reyes Pérez; the Director General of Professional Qualifications, Alfredo Espinosa Vega; the president of the Insular Association of Entrepreneurs of Hotels and Apartments of Lanzarote (Asolan), Susana Pérez, and the service technician, Patricia Martín.
Since 2016, the free service managed by Asolan and financed by the Cabildo of Lanzarote has received 3,101 applications, with one third of them concentrated in the previous fiscal year, in 2025, showing the results of the notable increase in the contributions of the Employment Service in this legislature.
During the meeting, Toledo highlighted that “these historic figures demonstrate the consolidation and absolute necessity of a tool that dignifies local talent. From the Cabildo, we continue to firmly commit to financing a resource that does justice to the trajectory of hundreds of workers who perform their work with rigor, but lacked official support, directly improving competitiveness and inclusion in our labor market”.
For her part, the president of Asolan, Susana Pérez, highlighted the highly qualified profile of the registered individuals, with a strong demand for Level 2 and Level 3 certifications. This free support program, managed directly by Asolan with the financing and support of the Employment Area of the island Corporation, facilitates access to the official accreditation of competencies for people with demonstrable work experience or non-formal training, without the need for a prior academic degree.
During the past 2025, coinciding with the relaunch and modernization of the service's image, Asolan processed a total of 1,014 accreditation applications, an annual record figure that shatters the 547 managed the previous year. Thus, the last fiscal year is consolidated as the one with the highest activity since the program's launch in 2016, representing 33% of the accumulated historical data on its own, which already reaches 3,101 applications.
Meanwhile, Alfredo Espinosa Vega, Director General of Professional Qualifications, emphasized that “this collaboration between the Cabildo de Lanzarote and Asolan is pioneering in Spain and is ten years ahead of the rest of the Spanish territory,” highlighting that “the system was not as well understood as the Ministry of Employment and Asolan have managed to understand it.”
In conclusion, the president of Asolan and the Tourism Federation of Lanzarote, Susana Pérez, underlined the enormous importance of this volume of accreditations for the island's business and economic fabric. “The exponential growth in this last period reflects that more and more people know about the service, and also that an increasingly professional and specialized profile of workers come to us,” she stated.
Pérez detailed that the most in-demand qualification levels have been the highest in the system: “We have 460 applications for Level 3 and 369 for Level 2, which clearly shows that our professionals seek to validate complex skills and knowledge that they already successfully perform in their jobs.”
Boost to the key sectors of the island's economy
The service's balance confirms that the largest volume of applications is concentrated in the age groups of greatest maturity (especially workers in the 36 to 45 and 46 to 55 age groups), reinforcing the program's role as a bridge of social justice for workers with extensive careers behind them. By professional families, the sectors linked to Hospitality and Tourism, Administration and Management, and Electricity and Electronics continue to lead demand on the island of Lanzarote.
“Accredita tu experiencia” is thus ratified as an essential resource that practically connects day-to-day experience with formal academic recognition, allowing users to validate subjects or gain direct access to Vocational Training cycles. Similarly, the program provides immediate strategic value to local companies, facilitating the organization of human resources, internal promotion, and the development of much more competitive and qualified workforces in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
