The automotive market in Lanzarote continues to show signs of strength in the summer period. According to official data from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC), compiled by the Data Center of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the island registered a total of 459 vehicle registrations during the past month of August, which represents an increase of 22.4% compared to the same month of the previous year, when 375 transactions were recorded.
In the breakdown by vehicle type, cars in general totaled 452 registrations in August compared to 358 a year earlier, showing a rise of 26.25%.
The real engine of growth was the passenger car segment, which went from 225 units registered in August of last year to 331 units registered this year, representing a significant advance of 47.1%.
For their part, motorcycles consolidated as a key mobility option, reaching 72 units, almost tripling the 25 transactions from the previous year. At the other end of the spectrum, vans suffered a slight decrease, going from 19 to 16 registrations, while adaptable mixed-use vehicles fell from 27 to 22 units.
At the municipal level, automotive market activity was concentrated mainly in the capital and tourist areas. Arrecife led the total volume with 133 registrations in August, an increase of 11.8% compared to the 119 registered in the same month of the previous year. For its part, Tías experienced a notable rebound, reaching 100 registrations, practically doubling the 51 signed in August of the previous period.
The rest of the island's geography showed uneven performance. Teguise experienced a strong increase, going from 36 to 74 units, representing growth of over 105%, while Yaiza recorded 48 registrations, falling below the 128 registered in the previous fiscal year.
Likewise, San Bartolomé registered 83 transactions compared to 157 in the same previous month, while Tinajo and Haría closed the month with more modest but stable figures, registering 16 and 5 registrations respectively.
With the closing of August data, the island of Lanzarote has accumulated a total of 4,288 vehicles registered so far this year.
