Used car sales fall 8.2% in the Canary Islands in September

Used car sales fall by 8.2% in the Canary Islands in September

The sale of second-hand cars and SUVs in the Canary Islands fell by 8.2% in September, standing at 6,754 units, according to data from the MSI consultancy for the sector associations Ganvam (official and independent distributors) and Faconauto (dealerships).

So far this year, the Canarian used car market has accumulated an increase of 5.0%, reaching 65,539 units.

As for the national calculation, sales of second-hand cars and SUVs fell by 4% in September, standing at 151,454 units. In the accumulated of 2023, meanwhile, the used market
accumulates an increase of 2.2%, reaching 1,393,716 units, which means that for each new vehicle, two used vehicles are sold.

In that sense, imports - which last year were one of the main ways of supplying vehicles in the face of the lack of product in the internal market as a result of tensions in the supply chain - fell by 11.3% in September, becoming the sales channel that fell the most during the past month.

For its part, the renewal of renting fleets and rental companies - which last year had to retain their vehicles longer than usual due to this lack of product - is allowing used
young people, highly demanded for their quality/price ratio, to regain prominence.

Specifically, operations with used vehicles from completed renting contracts rose by 34.5% during the past month and almost 26% until September. For their part, sales of used vehicles from rent a car grew by 10.3% during the past month and accumulate an increase of 44.5% so far this year.
