The board of directors of the Association of Self-Employed Workers (ATA) of the Canary Islands has elected Pedro Andueza as the new president, replacing Juan Carlos Arricivita, who had resigned and will continue as vice president, ATA reported this Monday.

Pedro Andueza, who until now was vice president of ATA Canarias and will lead the association until the next elections in 2024, is a self-employed businessman in the technology sector of the Velorcios Group, awarded by the College of Telecommunications Engineers of the Canary Islands with the award for the best technology development company in the archipelago in 2019.

The new president faces the coming months "with enthusiasm and with the commitment to fight for the interests" of the more than 138,000 self-employed Canarians, pointing out the need to put an end to the main problems that affect them, including the lack of financing and late payments.

“Betting on the self-employed Canarians is betting on the future of the archipelago. Therefore, we are going to ensure that the self-employed have the presence they deserve,” said Andueza.

The Canary Islands has been one of the leading communities in the growth of self-employed workers for months, but they continue to face numerous challenges. Andueza wants to focus on "helping to improve productivity and efficiency through digitalization, reducing the high business mortality of this group and working to reduce bureaucracy, late payments and the cost of access to financing.
