In March, a total of 5,451 tons of cement were sold in Lanzarote, 17.4% more than a year ago and much more than the previous month, when they did not reach 3,800 tons.
In fact, since April of last year, the monthly sale of cement on the island has always been below 4,000 tons.
In February there was already a slight increase compared to January and the March data show that the upward trend is consolidating. Since the maximum in March 2021, when 8,590 tons were recorded, a decreasing trend began that seems to be reversing.
The sale of cement, an important indicator of the dynamism of the construction sector on the island, experienced large falls since the records soared in the first year of the pandemic.
The monthly growth rate was 72% in May 2020. During the pandemic period, the absence of tourists led to greater construction and renovation activity.
At the level of the Canary archipelago as a whole, there has also been a notable increase, going from 44,000 tons in February to more than 55,000 last month.
