The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, through the Department of Agriculture, is launching this Monday, August 10, the olive harvesting campaign for free milling and processing at the oil mill during the current campaign.
The deadline to submit applications will remain open until August 28, and interested farmers must register in person at the facilities of the Experimental Agricultural Farm, from 08:00 to 13:00, Monday to Friday. For any queries, you can contact the phone number 928 598 500, extension 3600.
The president of the Cabildo and Minister of Agriculture, Oswaldo Betancort, highlights that this initiative represents “direct support for the farmers of Lanzarote and a commitment to continue valuing a production linked to our territory and the diversification of the primary sector”.
“From the Cabildo, we want to provide our farmers with the necessary means to transform their olive production and obtain a quality product, while ensuring that the entire process is carried out with the utmost sanitary guarantees,” states Betancort.
To access the service, each farmer must provide a minimum of 300 kilos of olives. The fruit must arrive clean of leaves, soil, or gravel and be in optimal phytosanitary condition. In the case of having used phytosanitary products, both chemical and organic, these must be registered in the corresponding official registry and the safety period established by the manufacturer must have been strictly respected.
The milling service will be free, while each farmer must assume the amount corresponding to the analyses necessary to guarantee the safety and quality of the obtained oil.
Betancort encourages producers to participate in the campaign and to formalize their applications within the established deadline. “We continue to work so that Lanzarote's agriculture has tools that allow it to maintain and improve its productions. The olive grove also plays an important role in the diversification of the island's countryside, and we want to accompany our farmers on that path,” concludes the island president.
