The marine deployment of the Base4 cable off the coast of Playa Honda, carried out by Canalink, a public company dependent on the Cabildo de Tenerife through the Technological Institute of Renewable Energies (ITER), has just been successfully completed.
This operation, along with the mooring in Ojos de Garza, still pending execution, and those already carried out in Costa Calma, Puerto del Rosario, and Playa Honda, has made it possible to advance towards the closure of the eastern half of the new fiber optic ring that the company is deploying in Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote within the framework of the Atlantica project.
The work was carried out by the cable ship Teliri, with the support of auxiliary vessels and specialized technical teams. The operation will allow the submarine cable to be connected to the terrestrial infrastructure of these mooring points and advance in the configuration of a new high-capacity communications network for the eastern islands.
The CEO of Canalink, Rubén Molowny, pointed out that "with the Base4 mooring in Playa Honda, we are responding to the ever-growing digital demand in the Canary Islands, which requires future-ready networks," he added.
During his visit to Lanzarote, Molowny thanked the entire crew and technical teams for their professionalism and effort, emphasizing that "these are jobs that are often not visible, but which are fundamental in day-to-day life."
The deployment of this new infrastructure will continue during September with the start of the western cable works, which will connect Barranco de Tenoya, in Gran Canaria, with Corralejo, in Fuerteventura, and Playa Blanca, in Lanzarote.
The action is part of the Atlantica project, with which Canalink strengthens connectivity between the islands and contributes to providing the archipelago with a telecommunications infrastructure with greater capacity and prepared to face the growth of digital demand.
