The Government agrees to increase pensions by 2.5%.

Average pensions increase by 651 euros compared to 2021

Pensions will increase by 2.5% in 2022 in general terms, by virtue of the Royal Decree approved on Tuesday, January 25 in the Council of Ministers, while the minimum and non-contributory pensions will be revalued by 3%.

Minister Escrivá has explained that, for an average pension, the so-called "paguilla" (1.6%) will amount to 250 euros, which added to the 400 euros of the revaluation already applied in January, represent an increase of 651 euros compared to 2021. Escrivá has confirmed a budget of 6,500 million euros to face the increase in pensions in 2021 as well as the compensatory payment, which will be the last time it is paid.

The new pension reform mechanism establishes that every January 1 they will be increased according to the average annual inflation registered in the previous year, while they will be frozen if a negative consumer price index is registered.
