The economic situation of residents in Lanzarote experienced a clear deterioration between April and June 2026 compared to the beginning of the year.
52.6% of Lanzarote residents stated they had difficulty making ends meet in the second quarter of 2026, which represents a sharp increase from the 46.7% recorded in the first quarter, according to the latest data from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC) on Consumer Confidence Indicators in the second quarter.
In this period, residents in Lanzarote with difficulty or great difficulty making ends meet went from 17.9% to 22%, while those who declared some difficulty rose from 28.8% to 30.6%.
In parallel, the percentage of citizens who made ends meet with some ease suffered a notable drop from 38.9% to 33.3%, while the maximum ease for those who make ends meet with ease or great ease decreased from 9.5% to 6.4%.
In the whole of the Canary Islands, almost six out of ten adult residents —58.8%— face serious complications in making ends meet during the second quarter of 2026.
On the contrary, 37.3% of Canarians state they end the month with ease or "well," a group mainly composed of those who make ends meet with "some ease" (27.8%) and a minority who do so with "ease or great ease" (9.5%).
In the rest of the archipelago, the metropolitan area of Tenerife leads the best economic solvency indices with 42.8% of residents who make ends meet "well," closely followed by the north of Gran Canaria with 41.9%.
On the opposite side, the south of Tenerife registers the highest rate of suffocation with 65.5% of people making ends meet "poorly," followed by the north of Tenerife with 64.6% in difficulty.
In Fuerteventura, 59.3% of citizens make ends meet poorly, a figure almost identical to that of El Hierro, where 59% struggle. For its part, La Gomera registers 63.5% of residents in difficulty and La Palma reaches 57.7% of the population with problems covering their monthly expenses.
