The Minister of Social Welfare, Candelaria Delgado, stated this Tuesday that if the state funds to fight poverty included all people at risk of vulnerability in the Canary Islands, between 100 and 134 million euros per year would be needed.
The head of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood and Families has responded in this way to the deputy of the Nationalist group, Vidina Espino, who was interested in the claim to the central government for an increase in funds in order to assist families who need it in the face of high rates of child poverty.
The counselor has detailed that 31,642 Canarian households are left out of the basic 'wallet card' program aid, which is financed with a state fund allocation of 4,900,000 euros and that only to include all the people who would need it with minors in their care should range between 30 and 50 million.
Furthermore, due to this "small economic amount" that the Canary Islands has requested to be expanded, it is estimated that between 13,000 and 15,000 households will not be able to access these resources, the counselor said.
For this reason, the Canarian Government has provided 1.1 million euros to the entities that manage food banks in the Canary Islands and has requested the central Executive to study the possibility of creating "a gateway", so that those who receive the Canarian citizenship income automatically start receiving the minimum living income when the first aid mentioned ends.
