The Vice President of the Government of the Canary Islands and Minister of Economy, Industry, Commerce and Self-Employed Workers, Manuel Domínguez, announced this Thursday in a parliamentary commission a plan of actions to protect local commerce.
The plan is designed to ensure that the sector remains an economic engine, a job creator, and an essential part of the Canarian identity. It focuses on three fundamental pillars: ensuring generational renewal, promoting the digitalization of commerce, and modernizing traditional markets.
Manuel Domínguez explained that "we want local commerce to have a future and for young people to see it as a life opportunity, for traditional markets to modernize and for every neighborhood store to adapt to the new times without losing its essence."
In this regard, he stated that the General Directorate of Commerce is studying reaching agreements with telephone operators so that 5G reaches rural municipalities where the network does not currently reach, in order to promote the digitalization of the sector in these areas and compete on equal terms."
The counselor recalled the investment of 4.1 million planned for next year in order to improve and modernize traditional markets, "key spaces for economic and social revitalization of neighborhoods and municipalities," and the commitment to promote Professional Training in the sector.
The vice president of the Canary Islands Government assured this Thursday that one of the main objectives of the Government is to "increase foreign investment in the Canary Islands" and pointed out that the best way to do this is through the Economic and Fiscal Regime (REF). "The Canary Islands has a competitive advantage that it has never been able to explain abroad. The REF should be a magnet for attracting investment."
