Canarias has announced subsidies for fishing guilds, their federations, and maritime cooperatives, intended to cover current operating expenses, with an economic allocation of 1.19 million euros, and to finance investment projects for equipment, with an amount of 418,923 euros. Thus, both lines total 1.608,923 euros.

These grants, financed with own funds from the Autonomous Community, aim to promote the improvement of these entities' assets and, as the minister of the area, Narvay Quintero, commented, allow for the coverage of various activities and expenses related to operation, management, and improvement of professionalization.

“Guilds, federations, and cooperatives play a fundamental role in representing and defending the economic, social, and corporate interests of the sector, which is why we consider it necessary to support their work to ensure the continuity of fishing activity, contribute to their strengthening, and promote associativism,” he added.

For his part, the Director General of Fisheries, Esteban Reyes, explained that “in last year's call, the high volume of applications submitted for the equipment investment line led the Government of Canarias to increase the budgetary allocation to 590,204.75 euros, in order to provide a broader response to the sector and offer greater guarantees to the beneficiary entities.”

In this regard, Reyes pointed out that “the Ministry's intention is to maintain that same line of support,” so once the applications submitted in this call are known, “we will study the possibility of expanding the available credit to reach the largest possible number of guilds, federations, and cooperatives.”

The aid for current expenses includes those derived from electricity supply, water, purchase of office supplies, contracting of mandatory insurance, and adoption of measures included in the Occupational Risk Prevention and Workplace Safety and Hygiene Plan, as well as disbursements related to administrative or technical management, or others linked to the development of professional activities, such as labor and tax advice and legal services.

On the other hand, the equipment measure covers investments in movable assets, adaptation of first sale facilities, computer equipment, transport elements for fishery products, or the improvement of the entities' social facilities.

Interested persons in applying for these lines have until May 30 to submit their application. The call for applications can be consulted in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands.
