The Arrecife Open Mall shopping center has requested a license to expand its exhibition and sales area to Pérez Galdós street, according to what the mayor of the Lanzarote capital, Yonathan de León, has published on social networks.
The city council has been informed by the General Directorate of Commerce and Consumption of the Government of the Canary Islands, which is responsible for granting the license.
If the request is approved, the Open Mall would also occupy the space of the old Ojeda cannery.
Thus, the shopping center would add 16,600 meters to the current 32,000 and would reach Pérez Galdos street in front of the Valterra Health Center.
De León believes that this expansion will “strengthen Arrecife as the capital of shopping and leisure”, and highlighted that it will “also contribute to the urban cohesion of the neighboring neighborhoods of Valterra, Los Alonso, Altavista, Titerroy and El Lomo."
The mayor of the city also wanted to emphasize that “private investments generate employment and support the local economy.”
