Boosting scientific activity in the Canary Islands and fostering the transformation of knowledge generated on the islands into useful solutions for businesses and society is one of the objectives of the 2026 Action Program of the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), a management center attached to the Ministry of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands. To this end, 2,845,290 euros are allocated to the Basic and Applied Research Support axis.
This investment is aimed at strengthening the capabilities of the Canarian R&D system, supporting research infrastructures and entities, and promoting the transfer of knowledge and technology to the productive sector. The objective is to contribute to the practical application of research results and to help respond to the economic, social, and environmental challenges of the Canary Islands.
Strengthening the scientific ecosystem and fostering transfer
The resources provided for this line allow for the support of actions developed by strategic entities within the Canarian R&D ecosystem, including the Canary Islands Technology Institute (ITC), as well as projects linked to areas of particular relevance for the future of the archipelago, such as the energy and technological transition.
Among the planned actions is support for the Energy Community Project of the Cabildo of La Gomera, aimed at advancing new energy generation and consumption models and promoting solutions linked to the transition towards a more sustainable energy system.
The Basic and Applied Research axis is part of a broader strategy that connects knowledge generation with talent training and attraction, business innovation, and digital transformation, so that the scientific and technological capabilities of the Canary Islands contribute to the economic and social development of the archipelago.
The budget combines the Government of the Canary Islands' own resources with funds from the European Union and the General State Administration, and is complemented by ACIISI's participation in international projects and programs obtained through competitive calls, including those developed within the framework of Interreg MAC 2021-2027.
