The Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), a management center dependent on the Ministry of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, has defined its Program of Actions for the year 2026, which brings together the main public policies, programs and lines of action aimed at strengthening the knowledge ecosystem, promoting innovation and technological development, and advancing the digital transformation of the Canary Islands.
This Program of Actions constitutes ACIISI's roadmap for the current year and includes the measures planned to respond, from science, innovation, and information society, to some of the main socioeconomic challenges of the Archipelago.
Among its priorities are the promotion of R&D&I and the attraction and retention of talent, the strengthening of the innovative business fabric, the transfer of knowledge from research centers to the productive sector, and progress in digital skills, connectivity, and infrastructure.
Main lines of action
The Program is structured into different blocks of action that cover the entire Canarian ecosystem of knowledge, innovation, and digital transformation.
R&D and talent: reinforcement of actions aimed at promoting research and development, as well as calls for training, hiring, and incorporation of research personnel in universities and R&D centers in the Canary Islands, also favoring the return and attraction of scientific talent.
Innovation and business competitiveness: promotion of incentives and support lines for small and medium-sized enterprises for the development of technological projects, R&D, knowledge transfer, and high specialization, contributing to improving their competitiveness and innovative capacity.
Information Society: continuation of programs aimed at the digital training of citizens, technological inclusion, connectivity, and the incorporation of advanced digital solutions.
Networks and territorial dynamization: support for scientific and technological infrastructures and consolidation of networks of innovation agents that facilitate collaboration and connection between research, companies, and other agents of the ecosystem on the different islands.
The document can be consulted in its entirety on the ACIISI website, where the set of programs and actions planned for this year is collected.
In addition, ACIISI will break down and publicize its main lines of action through a series of content, which will allow for a more detailed understanding of the initiatives, calls, and programs included in the Plan and their impact in areas such as research, talent, business innovation, and digital transformation.
With this planning, the Government of the Canary Islands reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable development model based on knowledge and places research, development, innovation, and digitalization as cross-cutting elements to advance in the competitiveness and social well-being of the Canary Islands.
