The Island Association of Hotel and Apartment Business Owners of Lanzarote, ASOLAN, has re-elected Susana Pérez Represa as president. The electoral assembly of the business association, held this Friday, October 23, has placed its trust in the candidacy headed by Susana Pérez and has proceeded to proclaim her again as president.

After renewing her mandate, Pérez thanked the assembly for the trust placed in her to continue at the head of the business association, and expressed her recognition to the outgoing members, who have accompanied her on the Board of Directors in the mandate that ends, giving rise to four new incorporations.

Thus, Francisco Martínez, Bárbara Esparrago and Héctor Pulido, Luis Miguel Morales (Treasurer), Ernesto Guerra (Secretary) and the members: Adolfo de la Rua, Solveig Olsen, Iris Berger, Francisco Armas, Juan Fco. Torres, Roberto Reyes, Javier Seguí, Joaquín Cañada and Bienvenido Saavedra will accompany Pérez Represa on the board of directors, in the positions of Vice Presidents of the area.

In her words, Pérez has also reviewed the situation of tourism, severely hit by the crisis caused by the coronavirus, emphasizing the important challenges facing the sector to get out of the critical position in which it finds itself. In this sense, Pérez has welcomed the reopening of tourism from the United Kingdom and Germany, although she has shown caution, insisting on the need to have control mechanisms upon the arrival of passengers at airports to guarantee the safety of the destination.

"It is excellent news and a breath of fresh air for the tourism sector, the economy and employment of the islands, that the United Kingdom and Germany have lifted travel restrictions to the Canary Islands, which has been possible thanks to the hard effort and work carried out by citizens, companies, health workers with compliance with the measures established by the Government of the Canary Islands during the month of September with a high rate of positive cases, to reach today as a safe destination for issuing countries, but even more important is to remain as a "safe destination" throughout the winter and not make the mistake of the summer season, opening without a control mechanism and early detection of covid, tests, at airports and having to close in one or two months due to possible increases in positive cases."

The president of ASOLAN has highlighted "the unity and public-private collaboration", highlighting the strengths of tourism in the Canary Islands to move forward. "We have an uncertain future ahead of us, but we have to lead the recovery process. Tourism will move forward because it has important strengths in the Canary Islands in general, in Lanzarote in particular, both in its own natural and climatological resources, as well as the professionalism of the sector that makes the customer experience satisfactory and repetitive," she said.

In addition to the recovery from the economic-health crisis as a priority objective, Pérez has also pointed out the need to continue advancing digital transformation, innovation, sustainability, as well as the training and qualification of workers, as a way to improve the competitiveness of companies, destination and favor the return of tourism and, with it, the recovery of the economy and employment of Lanzarote."

The General Assembly of Asolan included the intervention, by videoconference, of the Minister of Tourism in the Canary Islands, Yaiza Castilla, and with the presence of the Minister of Tourism of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Ángel Vázquez and the Manager of the Society for the Promotion of Foreign Affairs of Lanzarote (SPEL), Héctor Fernandez, who reported on the latest developments in the face of the winter tourism reopening.
