The City Council of San Bartolomé has created a Local Energy Community (LEC) under the name of 'San Bartolomé Community Energy' that is committed to the production, management and consumption of renewable energy through photovoltaic technology.
As explained this Monday in a statement by the City Council, this new entity is based on the environmental, economic and social development of the population from an energy perspective.
The main objectives of the project are to promote self-consumption and efficiency energy, share renewable energy from local production, combat energy poverty and generate environmental, economic and social benefits for members and their immediate environment.
"From the environmental point of view, we will actively contribute to the reduction of the carbon footprint, on the economic level we seek to reduce the costs of their energy bill for citizens and, on the social aspect, we want to respond to many people and families who suffer from energy deficiencies in their homes," said the mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez.
The mayor has expressed his satisfaction with the approval of this pioneering initiative in Lanzarote, indicating that this project reinforces his commitment "to a just and sustainable energy transition".
'San Bartolomé Community Energy' will promote the formation of cooperation networks with other entities and will organize activities that promote sustainability, citizen participation and community development.
