Prices have risen by 2.2% in the last year in the Canary Islands

Only two autonomous communities have had lower inflation than the Canary Islands in the last twelve months

Prices grew during the past month of August in seven autonomous communities, more in Asturias (0.4%) and Cantabria (0.3%), and 0.2% in the Canary Islands, decreased in five, to a greater extent in Extremadura and Navarra (0.3% both) and remained stable in the other five, according to data published this Friday by the INE.

However, compared to last year, prices are 2.2% higher in the Canary Islands and 2.7% nationally.

In the archipelago, prices rose mainly in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, which increased by 5.4% and hotels, 3.9%; other goods and services, 3.1% and healthcare, 2.6%.

The most moderate year-on-year increases were experienced in the price of furniture, household items and articles for the current maintenance of the home, 0.2%; leisure and culture, 0.4%; communications, 0.8% and transport, 0.8%.

Prices grew above 3% in Balearic Islands (3.2%), Valencian Community (3.2%) and Asturias (3.1%) and close to 2% in Canary Islands (2.2%) and Murcia and La Rioja (2.1% in both).

In the first eight months of the year, prices increased significantly in the Balearic Islands (3.0%), Asturias (2.6%) and the Valencian Community (2.5%) and with less intensity in La Rioja (1.5%) and Castilla-La Mancha and Murcia (1.4%).
