The Canary Islands Appliance Renovation Plan will activate a third batch of vouchers this Monday, October 19, through the platform gestion.planrenovecanarias.es with the aim of continuing to promote the renovation of domestic equipment for more efficient ones and favoring energy savings for families.
As of October 15, the program has allowed the redemption of 4,547 vouchers for an amount of 803,790 euros, out of a total program budget of 1.6 million euros managed by Femete and Femepa. In the first phase, 421,220 euros were executed, while the second has reached 803,790 euros accumulated to that date. Likewise, of the vouchers granted, there are 1,577 vouchers pending redemption. Currently, the Renovation Plan has 217 affiliated establishments on the islands.
From the replacement of the 3,938 appliances, the technical calculation estimates savings of 476,183 kWh per year (476.2 MWh) and 262.4 tons of CO₂ equivalent avoided annually. These indicators apply an average saving of 120.92 kWh per equipment per year, along with an emission factor for the regional scope of 0.551 kg of CO₂ equivalent per kWh.
The impact of the program is also reflected in energy efficiency. The estimate associated with the replaced equipment places the savings at 476.2 MWh annually, in addition to a reduction of 262 tons of CO₂ per year.
“The results show that the Plan is turning aid into real savings for households and into an improvement in energy efficiency: 4,547 pieces of equipment have already been renovated. Now it is essential to use the voucher correctly. The 15 natural days period begins at the moment the voucher is generated, which must be presented before making the purchase, so it is advisable to go to an affiliated store as soon as possible, without waiting until the last day,” explains Juan Antonio Jiménez Arranz, president of Femete.
For her part, the president of Femepa, Patricia Jiménez Marcelo, clarifies that “each voucher that is not redeemed within the deadline releases funds that can be reallocated to other applications. At the affiliated store, the code is verified and the discount is applied directly to the invoice. Furthermore, the establishment must manage the withdrawal of the replaced appliance and prove its correct delivery as waste electrical and electronic equipment, because the operation does not end with the purchase: the cycle of the old appliance must also be properly closed.”
Use of the voucher and citizen attention
The procedure established for processing the vouchers contemplates a validity period of 15 calendar days counted from their issue date.
The document includes a code that must be presented at a participating store prior to making the purchase. Once presented, the establishment verifies the code and applies the discount directly to the sales invoice, while processing the collection of the replaced appliance and certifying its formal delivery as Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment.
After the 15-day period expires without the voucher having been redeemed, the amount returns to the program's credit to attend to new applications.
