The political group Más Madrid has asked the Bureau of the Madrid Assembly that the Chamber of Accounts audit the actions of the group Canal de Isabel II outside its community and, specifically, of Canal Gestión Lanzarote throughout this legislature.
The deputy of the Madrid Assembly, Alejandro Sánchez, has made this request under the protection of articles 10 and 44 of the Madrid Chamber of Accounts Law of 1999.
Canal Gestión Lanzarote manages the integral water cycle on the island since June 2013. It initially contributed 106 million euros to pay Inalsa's debts, the public company that managed water until then, and to make investments.
Subsequently, according to its own accounts, it has already lost, until last year, 75.4 million euros. Canal de Isabel II maintained a loan for 145 million euros to restore its equity situation, which increased to 184 million in the 2024 fiscal year.
In April last year, the Lanzarote Water Consortium opened a file to terminate the contract due to serious breaches.
After that file, a period was set, already extended, for Canal to find another company to transfer the contract to, which has not yet been resolved.
