The Minister of Finance and Relations with the European Union, Matilde Asián, has issued the order determining the non-capital islands in which the extraordinary and temporary bonus of the fuel price will be applied and the amounts thereof for the second calendar quarter of the year.

The measure, which will enter into force on April 1 and will remain until June 30, establishes a temporary and extraordinary bonus of 5 cents per liter supplied for Fuerteventura; of 20 cents per liter in La Gomera and 30 cents per liter supplied on the island of El Hierro.

In the case of La Palma, the extraordinary bonus of 20 cents per liter, authorized by the Governing Council, will remain in effect throughout the month of April, taking into account the special situation of economic recovery in which the island is immersed and the state of its road system after the volcanic eruption as a requirement for said recovery. As of May, the amount of the bonus will be reviewed according to the island's recovery data and its specific regulations.

So far, Lanzarote will not receive this bonus for fuel in the next quarter because, according to the scale, the price of gasoline and diesel on the island is the same as on the capital islands that are used as a reference.

Determination of the amounts

The variation in the amounts and islands that receive it is determined quarterly, according to the average prices of each island compared to those of Gran Canaria and Tenerife for the same period, so that the bonus is adjusted to the real costs borne by the citizens of the non-capital islands.

In this way, the average of the supply prices of G95 gasoline and GOA diesel in Gran Canaria and Tenerife during January, February and the first half of March was 1.21 euros. This figure is the one that has been taken to reference the average prices of the same supplies in the same period for the non-capital islands, except La Palma, and which were 1.27 euros on average for Fuerteventura; 1.45 euros in La Gomera and 1.56 euros in the case of El Hierro. In Lanzarote the average price is identical to that of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, that is, 1.21 euros.

Once all the average prices have been established, the differential between the amounts of the non-capital and capital islands is what dictates the amount of the bonus in each island according to the following calculation:

- The bonus will be 30 cents per liter for a differential equal to or greater than 0.30€ per liter.

- If the price differential is between 0.25€ and 0.30€ per liter, the bonus will be 25 cents per liter.

- The bonus will be 20 cents per liter, provided that the differential ranges between 0.20€ and 0.25€ per liter.

- The bonus will be 15 cents per liter if the price differential is between 0.15€ and 0.20€ per liter

- The amount will be 10 cents per liter for a differential that ranges between 0.10€ and 0.15€ per liter.

- The bonus will be 5 cents per liter for an average price differential between the non-capital island and the capital islands equal to 0.05€ and less than 0.10€.

- On the contrary, a differential of less than 0.05€ will not entitle you to the bonus.
