Lanzarote, the only island without fuel bonus among the non-capital ones

To adjust the measure to the real costs, a single amount is not established, but the amount will be determined quarterly, according to the prices of each island compared to those of Gran Canaria and Tenerife for the same period.

The Ministry of Finance and Relations with the European Union of the Government of the Canary Islands, led by Matilde Asián, included in the Law of General Budgets of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for the year 2025, the extension of the bonus in the retail sale price of fuel, reserved until then for La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera, to all the non-capital islands from February 1.

In this way, an extraordinary bonus of 5 cents per liter supplied is established for Fuerteventura; 10 cents per liter in the case of La Palma; 20 cents per liter in La Gomera and 30 cents per liter supplied on the island of El Hierro for the months of February and March.

To adjust the measure to the real costs borne by the citizens of the smaller islands, a single amount is not established, but the amount will be determined quarterly, according to the prices of each island compared to those of Gran Canaria and Tenerife for the same period.

Similarly, it will be determined which islands are entitled to the bonus in each period according to the comparison between the average prices of gasoline and diesel supplies on each non-capital island with the joint average of supply prices in Gran Canaria and Tenerife. This means that the bonus may vary between the islands or be zero, depending on the island.

For Matilde Asián, the new calculation methodology represents “an important advance, since prices are adjusted, in a more precise way, to the reality of each island with the aim of mitigating the real extra cost borne by the citizens of the non-capital islands.”

The new rule determines that the extraordinary and temporary bonus of the price of fuel derived from oil refining must be applied on a non-capital island, when the average price of gasoline (G95) and diesel (GOA) supplies is equal to or greater than 0.05 euros (five cents) to the average price in the same period of these supplies on the islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife.

Criteria for calculating the amount of the bonus

- A bonus of 30 cents per liter is set when, in the corresponding period, the average price differential on the non-capital island is equal to or greater than €0.30 per liter compared to the average price on the capital islands.

- The bonus will be 25 cents per liter when, in the corresponding period, the price differential is between €0.25 and €0.30 per liter compared to the average price on the capital islands.

- A bonus of 20 cents per liter will be established in the event that, in the corresponding period, the price difference is equal to €0.20 and less than €0.25 per liter.

- The bonus will be 15 cents per liter if the average price differential between the non-capital island and the capital islands is equal to €0.15 and less than €0.20 in the corresponding period.

- The amount will be 10 cents per liter if the average price differential, in the corresponding period, between the non-capital island and the capital islands is between €0.10 and €0.15.

- Finally, a bonus of 5 cents per liter will be established in the event that the average price differential, in the corresponding period, between the non-capital island and the capital islands is equal to €0.05 and less than €0.10.

A differential of less than €0.05 will not entitle you to the bonus.
