The Council of Ministers approved this Tuesday the **extension of public transport aid for all of 2026**, including the one that finances the **free urban and interurban buses in the Canary Islands** and the tram for regular travelers with the Canarian resident pass.
**In addition**, it has given the green light to the **single pass**, which integrates interregional buses, commuter trains, and medium-distance trains into a single monthly fare of 60 euros.
The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, explained at the press conference following the Council of Ministers that, to finance both measures, **1,371 million euros will be allocated**.
Starting from the **second half of January**, the single pass will be launched, which will be valid for state-owned interregional buses, commuter trains, and medium-distance trains, with a flat rate of 60 euros (30 euros for those under 26 years old), as previously announced by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, at the year-end review press conference.
The bonuses extended for all of 2026 establish that for **state bus services**, child fares (up to 14 years old) remain free, the 10-trip pass will have a 40% discount, and the monthly pass will have a 50% discount, and 70% for young people up to 26 years old.
For **public transport under regional and local jurisdiction**, state aid is extended, with free fares for children, 50% discounts for young people up to 26 years old, and a 20% bonus on other passes.
Here, the Government will finance the discount regardless of whether the competent administration decides to finance an additional 20% (until now, it only did so if the autonomous community or the municipality also committed).
Specific aid for regular travelers in territories such as the **Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands** is also maintained, with free public land transport for regular travelers; and in Asturias and Cantabria, free commuter services also for regular travelers.
For **Renfe**, current measures are extended, with the unlimited monthly pass for 20 euros (10 euros for young people) as well as free travel for children under 14 years old.
**Medium-distance and special Avant trains** will be free for children, and monthly passes and 10-trip tickets will have a 40% discount. For general Avant services, the 50% bonus on 10-trip tickets is extended.
Puente also announced the **new "Pase Vía" quarterly pass** for Avant services (which offers greater discounts as you travel more); or the Cronos system for commuter trains, with 40% discounts from the fifth trip onwards when paying with a bank card at the turnstile.
The "Pase Vía" will allow users not to make an upfront payment, but rather to pay for each ticket purchased, and the higher the number of tickets, the greater the discount. Discounts will range from 45% to 72%, thus avoiding the loss of trips and paying according to those actually taken.
For medium-distance services on the metric gauge network, round-trip discounts increase from 7% to 20%, bringing them in line with the rest of the conventional network.
