Innovating is also protecting our roots. Under this premise, the Ministry of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), celebrates Canary Islands Month by highlighting projects that have managed to marry the ancestral legacy of the islands with the most disruptive technologies of the 21st century.
ACIISI has wanted to highlight an example of innovation in matters of identity on each island and from Lanzarote it has underlined the work of Bodega Erupción and its volcanic viticulture, which, by relying on regenerative science and intelligent water management, protects a unique landscape with a zero carbon footprint.
In every corner of the archipelago there are examples of local companies that, with the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, are leading the transformation of the Canary productive fabric, using cutting-edge tools to ensure the survival and competitiveness of traditional sectors.
From agricultural management through drones to the circular economy with coffee waste, innovation proves to be a strategic ally for enhancing sectors linked to Canarian identity.
A route of progress through the rest of the islands
La Palma: With Salinas de Fuencaliente, the "white gold" evolves towards biotechnology. Its laboratories research the use of microalgae and brines for nutrition and cosmetics, multiplying the value of an ancestral trade.
El Hierro: The SME Tecnofly Canarias leads smart agriculture in Europe from the island of the Meridian. The use of drones for crop monitoring allows for resource optimization and protection of the agricultural sector with technological precision.
La Gomera: PEG Los Telares stands out as the island's only avant-garde reference, merging historical rigor with immersive experiences, modernizing the dissemination and protection of regional heritage.
Fuerteventura: Innovation reaches health with Itrazos. This initiative develops a pioneering therapy to mobilize the non-dominant cerebral hemisphere, demonstrating that technological solutions with human impact are created from the islands.
Tenerife: Doña Laura demonstrates that traditional pastry making coexists with Industry 4.0. Advanced technological processes scale the production of inherited recipes while keeping their artisanal essence intact.
Gran Canaria: Coffee Fungi is a benchmark for circular innovation. They transform coffee waste into substrate for mushroom cultivation, turning urban waste into a sustainable, high-quality food resource.
The CIDE Network's Commitment to the Canary Islands
These examples are success stories that have been advised by the CIDE Network, a public and free instrument that acts as a bridge between idea and execution, facilitating access to funding and technical knowledge.
The CIDE Network is an initiative of the Ministry of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, promoted through the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, with a co-financing rate of 85% within the framework of the FEDER Canarias 2021-2027 Program.
A Month to Celebrate That ‘We Are Heritage of the Canary Islands’
The Government celebrates the Day of the Canary Islands from the value of the common identity ‘We Are Heritage of the Canary Islands’. The initiative to extend the celebration of the Day of the Canary Islands to a whole month is an invitation to recognize, share, and preserve what unites us as a people. Throughout several weeks, a space will be created to bring our traditions, our history, and our identity closer to all citizens, ensuring that this common legacy reaches every corner and, even, beyond our territory.
The entire program is available on the Government of the Canary Islands' web portal, as well as on the social media of the Presidency of the Government and the different areas responsible for organizing each activity, where information is updated daily.
