The president of the Lanzarote Tourism Federation (FTL) and Asolan, Susana Pérez, and the president of the Lanzarote and La Graciosa Hotel Union (Hostelan), Orlando Ortega, held a meeting this Thursday with the new Councilor of Hospitality of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Armando Santana.
This is the first formal meeting after the recent creation of this specific area in the island corporation, with the aim of strengthening one of the strategic sectors of the island's economy.
The meeting allowed for an exchange of views on the lines of work that will be promoted by the new Council and open a framework of collaboration with the main representative organizations of the sector.
Among the topics discussed were proposals for training actions, the organization of conferences and events that contribute to highlighting the value of island hospitality, as well as other initiatives aimed at strengthening its role within the tourism and leisure offer of Lanzarote.
The Lanzarote Tourism Federation and Hostelan positively assessed the creation of the Hospitality Council, considering it a decisive step to make this sector visible and strengthen it. "Hospitality is a key piece within the tourism value chain of Lanzarote, but it also represents a first-rate attraction for the local population, which enjoys its quality and diversity. It is very important that the sector has its own area in the administration that allows it to grow, innovate and consolidate as an economic and social engine of our island," said Susana Pérez.
The president of Hostelan, Orlando Ortega, also celebrated the boost provided by this new area of the Cabildo. "We highly value the recognition that is intended to be given to hospitality and we appreciate the good disposition shown by the councilor. Now the important thing is that this commitment translates into concrete steps that strengthen the sector," he said.
For his part, the Councilor of Hospitality of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Armando Santana, positively assessed the meeting and highlighted the importance of establishing a shared roadmap. "It is essential that both the administration and the business sector maintain this type of meeting and, above all, that we set ourselves a joint work route from now on. Our interest is to move towards the signing of an agreement that allows us to set an agenda and undertake concrete actions to defend and strengthen hospitality on the island," he said.
This first meeting marks the beginning of a joint work that will continue in the coming months, with the will to align efforts between the private sector and the public administration to strengthen the positioning and competitiveness of hospitality in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
