Hiperdino's contribution to the economy grows to 2.58% of regional GDP

For each direct job in HiperDino, which has 9,500 employees, 3.22 indirect jobs are generated in the Canary Islands

HiperDino's contribution to the Canary Islands economy increased this year to 2.58% of the Canary Islands GDP. In 2021 it was equivalent to 1.54%.

According to the latest report Evolution of HiperDino's impact on Canary Islands society, which the supermarket chain publishes every year, for every 1 euro of income generated by HiperDino, 4.26 euros are generated in the Canary Islands income.

In addition, the employment motivated by its activity represents 3.38% of the employed population. This means that, for each direct job in HiperDino, 3.22 indirect jobs are generated in the Canary Islands.

The leading chain in the food sector in the archipelago is also the first in job creation and the third in terms of turnover. At the national level, it is one of the main food distribution chains, the tenth in terms of turnover and 1,311 million euros in sales.

The report also reveals that the total economic impact of HiperDino on production measured at basic prices amounts to 3,419.63 million euros. For every 1 euro of direct production from the chain, 1.15 euros are generated in the archipelago.

Likewise, its contribution to Canary Islands society is also measured by its social commitment to the territory. Among other contributions, 49% of its purchases come from Canary Islands suppliers and 83.73% of the 9,500 employees on its staff have permanent contracts.

This staff includes 61 people at risk of social exclusion. On the other hand, the chain's foundation has donated 571,345 kilos
of food that benefited 14,243 people daily

In the environmental axis, the chain has carried out an energy audit and has six tools and actions to reduce and raise awareness about food waste. Among other measures, the installation of four photovoltaic plants reduced its CO2 emissions by 2,405 tons.
