Vehicle registrations in Lanzarote registered a decrease of 5.3% during the first seven months of the year compared to the same period last year. In the case of passenger cars, the drop was 8%, according to data provided by the Lanzarote Data Center.
Between January and July of this year, a total of 3,829 vehicles were registered, compared to the 4,043 registered in the same months last year, which represents 214 fewer registrations on the island's roads.
Despite the notable rebound experienced in the month of July —in which registrations soared by 47.1% year-on-year, reaching 849 units—, the sharp decline accumulated during the spring, when April, May, and June registered drops of over 30% and 50%, ended up tipping the balance into negative territory for the overall total of the first seven months of the year.
Teguise and Arrecife cushion the sharp fall in San Bartolomé and Tías
At the municipal level, Teguise led island growth with an increase of 111.7%, raising its registrations from 282 to 597 (315 more units), driven mainly by the strong pull of July, which registered 198 registrations.
For its part, Arrecife increased by 17% (+156 vehicles) to reach 1,074 units. At the opposite end, San Bartolomé suffered the largest absolute drop in Lanzarote, cutting its figures by 34.6% from 1,433 to 937 registrations (-496 vehicles), affected by lower activity in fleets and dealerships.
In the southern area, the tourist areas of Tías and Yaiza showed notable contractions of 25.3% (-193 vehicles) and 15.2% (-71 vehicles), respectively.
Tinajo, for its part, experienced a notable rebound, going from 131 to 200 vehicles registered compared to last year (+69 units).
In Haría, a modest growth of 6 more vehicles was registered in the cumulative total, rising from 50 to 56 registrations in total.

Finally, the breakdown by vehicle type reveals that the contraction in the general market was mainly due to the decline in the passenger car category, the segment with the largest share on the island, which decreased by 8.0% from 3,206 to 2,949 units (-257 vehicles) due to the lower volume of renewals in rental car fleets and for private individuals.
In contrast, light professional and goods transport showed clear signs of resilience, with an increase of 16.4% in vans (170 registrations, +24 units) and 20.4% in trucks (59 units, +10 more). Similarly, the two-wheel market maintained an upward trend, with motorcycles experiencing 11.9% growth, rising from 329 to 368 registered units (+39 vehicles).
