Los Cabrerones (6)

The Cabildo of Lanzarote is currently tendering the service for the drafting of the basic and execution project for the rehabilitation and conservation of the historic property known as Los Cabrerones.

The building is located at Ingeniero Paz Peraza street, number 54, in the municipality of Arrecife (Valterra neighborhood) and its recovery is part of the island's policy for the protection, recovery, and enhancement of architectural heritage.

The contract, processed through a simplified open procedure, has a base tender budget of 64,200 euros (VAT included), with an amount excluding taxes of 60,000 euros, and an execution period of 12 months. The announcement was published on the Public Sector Contracting Platform on December 29, 2025, and the deadline for submitting bids will remain open until this January 14, 2026.

The Los Cabrerones property, acquired by the Cabildo in 2024, is one of the most representative buildings of the historical heritage of Arrecife and Lanzarote. According to available data, it dates back to the late 19th century, and was commissioned by Justo Cabrera, known as "el Cabrerón".

Between 1887 and 1902 it housed the **Hospital de Los Dolores**, constituting the island's first health reference point, and later served various social, commercial, and cultural purposes.

Cataloged with full protection status in the General Urban Planning Plan of Arrecife, the building is a notable example of Lanzarote's traditional stately architecture, with a unique typology, two stories, a central courtyard, and original constructive elements of great value. However, prolonged abandonment has caused severe deterioration, which led to its inclusion in the Hispania Nostra Red List, which identifies heritage assets at risk

The drafting of the project will allow for the definition of the necessary conservation and restoration actions, strictly respecting cultural heritage regulations, with the aim of guaranteeing the preservation of the property and moving towards its future rehabilitation and compatible use. The tender documents emphasize the specialized nature and extensive experience that bidding companies must possess.
