CCOO has decided to toughen the calendar of mobilizations in defense of the commerce sector and has called a new protest demonstration in Lanzarote. And, the union denounces that "the employers continue without intention of contributing improvements to the workers of a sector that has been essential during this pandemic".
"The commerce staff has been on the front line, providing a basic service for society, while their rights have been limited and their collective agreement has been expired since 2019", CCOO states.
In this sense, the union affirms that "to this day, 90% of the companies in the sector continue without applying the sentence of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, in which it was established that the staff's rest should be 48 consecutive hours, this sentence being from 2013. “Despite the fact that this sector has increased benefits during the pandemic, the Cecapyme and Feladyme employers continue to deny the labor rights of their workers, despising collective bargaining and maintaining an intransigent and antisocial position,” he adds.
Thus, following the mobilizations that have been organized throughout the islands demanding a "fair" agreement, CCOO has called protest demonstrations in a caravan of cars throughout the province of Las Palmas for next February 5.
In the case of Lanzarote, the caravan will depart at 10:30 a.m. from the Cabildo esplanade, to travel through the center of Arrecife and Puerto del Carmen. On the island, a concentration already took place on January 15 in front of the doors of the Hiperdino of the Playa Honda industrial estate, which had "a great participation despite the great organizational difficulties due to the security measures for Covid-19", according to CCOO.
In Gran Canaria, the protest on February 5 will depart at 11:00 a.m. from the El Muelle Shopping Center, while in Fuerteventura it will depart from the Rotondas Shopping Center in Puero del Rosario, also at 11:00 a.m.
CCOO makes a call "to the entire working class of the island", to participate in this new call "in solidarity with the commerce workers, who continue to give everything in this pandemic".
