Competing for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival will be ‘Bitter Christmas’, by Pedro Almodóvar, partially shot in different locations in Lanzarote; and ‘The Loved One’, by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, which is a co-production with France, mostly Spanish and, specifically, from a Canary Islands company. In addition, part of the film was shot in various locations in Fuerteventura.

The French Riviera Film Festival is celebrated between May 12 and 17 and in its section Cannes Premiere ‘The end of it’, by María Martínez Bayona, filmed in Tenerife, will also compete. It is a co-production of Cobalt Films and Mediapro Canarias with Norway and the United Kingdom, starring Rebecca Hall, Noomi Rapace, Gael García Bernal, Beanie Feldstein and David Verdaguer.

The important event with the seventh art in Cannes will also feature the film industry of the Canary Islands, as Canary Islands Film will have its own space at Marché du Film, the market parallel to the festival, where there will be a broad representation of the island's audiovisual sector participating in meetings, presentations, and other actions aimed at the growth of the sector in the islands.

Around twenty film professionals make up the Canary Islands delegation in Cannes, around the Canary Islands Film stand, including its director, Natacha Mora, along with representatives from Gran Canaria Film Commission and Zona Especial Canaria. A space that, as on other occasions, is part of the ‘Cinema from Spain’ pavilion and will be the meeting point for the more than thirty meetings already arranged between professionals from the Canary Islands and from other parts of the world.

To facilitate contact and business opportunities, Canary Islands Film has prepared its usual directory Who is who, which will be available for on-site consultation via QR. The Canary Islands delegation will also attend conferences and networking events organized within the framework of Marché du Film. Among them, those promoted by the state institutions ICEX and ICAA, with the aim of fostering encounters between the Spanish delegation and other professionals interested in working in the islands.

On the other hand, also within Marché du Film, the Isla Calavera Festival, a Canarian reference for fantastic cinema, will be presented. It will be on Saturday, May 16th at the Fantastic Pavilion, the market area dedicated to this genre. The tenth edition will be announced to professionals in production, distribution, and programming, as well as to specialized press and cultural institutions from around the world.
