The Minister of Agriculture, Narvay Quintero, has declared the phylloxera plague in the Canary Islands "completely eliminated", although it is necessary to wait three years, of which one has passed, to consider it "extinct", which would make the islands "the only region in the world" to achieve it.

Quintero stated in the plenary session of the Parliament of the Canary Islands that the phylloxera plague is "localized, controlled, and as of today completely eliminated" thanks to the approved order and the "radical measures" adopted, which allow the archipelago to remain "ungrafted".

He did so at the request of the nationalist deputy Francisco Linares, who asked him about the exports of Canarian wine and reflected on "the terrifying effects" that "the phylloxera attack" would have had, which, he said, "is now under control".

Regarding the exports of Canarian wines, the minister valued that they have grown in all the islands and all the denominations of origin.

In 2025, more than 177,000 liters of Canarian wine were exported, of which 46,000 went to other countries in the European Union and the remaining 131,000 to third countries. Almost half, 80,000 liters, went to the United States.

Quintero proclaimed that Canarian wine is "an international wine" due to its quality and "unique" characteristics, and that "when Canarian wine is consumed anywhere in the world, an excellent product is consumed, as well as a part of the history" of the islands.
