Vegetarian and vegan diets, both based on plant-based foods, with the difference that the former also includes animal derivatives such as milk or butter, seduce more and more people, whether for health, personal ethics or ecological awareness.
Consequently, the number of specialized catering establishments is increasing throughout the country, according to a study by the Holidu vacation home portal.
The report reveals that Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the fourth city in Spain with the most vegan and vegetarian restaurants per inhabitant.
In the city of Tenerife there are four vegetarian restaurants and nine more exclusively vegan, that is, there are 6.4 such restaurants per 100,000 inhabitants. Among the establishments in the Canary city, Holidu highlights La Verdulería.
"With local seasonal products, La Verdulería's menu not only satisfies vegetarians, but also vegans, celiacs and lactose intolerant people. This establishment challenges the myth that vegetarian food cannot be delicious, offering tasty and balanced dishes.”
The first place among the cities of Spain is for Santiago de Compostela, which has 8.3 specialized restaurants. The second is Barcelona with 7.1 restaurants and the third Granada which obtained a score of 6.9 restaurants of this type per 100,000 inhabitants. After Santa Cruz, Salamanca ranks fifth, with 5.5 restaurants.
