The Government of the Canary Islands presented this week its new institutional slogan “Equal Islands” with which it commits to a "development of the archipelago that can only progress if the eight islands advance at the same pace".
During the press conference held at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Deputy Minister of Communication and Relations with the Media of the Government of the Canary Islands, Jonathan Domínguez, stressed that “Canary Islands wants to achieve a future in which there is no competition or distinctions between the islands, but cohesion of the entire territory. A model of autonomous community in which there is equality of opportunities, with quality essential public services on all eight islands, regardless of where you reside”, he stressed.
In this sense, the slogan “Equal Islands” encompasses all the current lines of work of the Executive and the commitment to the transformation of the development model of the Canary Islands, in a united manner, with "changes at the same speed, without distinctions between islands and people".
Domínguez appealed to the involvement of both the Canarian society and the island institutions, highlighting that they seek to “commit and assume a co-responsible role, so that together we can achieve sustainable islands with their nature, with the economy, with social welfare and culture, without losing the identity that characterizes each one”, he added.
The Canarian Government will promote different information campaigns to publicize the actions they are developing within this commitment of “Equal Islands” that allows reaching a mature and informed society.
Among the areas, those related to the landscape and rural life stand out, as well as the promotion of the primary sector and food sovereignty. As well as, the social commitment, migrations and equality. They also go through economic diversification, industry, employment and promotion of entrepreneurship or a tourism committed and responsible with the social, economic and natural ecosystem.
