The Canary Islands were present from March 17 to 21, 2025 at the Cartuja Auditorium in Seville, where the first edition of 'New Space & Solutions' was held, a pioneering meeting in which the space and satellite industry came together to jointly explain the solutions they provide to citizens.

The meeting had a wide institutional representation, consolidating Spain's position at the forefront of space innovation. In this list of institutions at an international, national and regional level is the Government of the Canary Islands, represented by its general director of Organic Coordination and Strategic Projects, David Pérez- Dionis, with the support of Proexca and the Fuerteventura Technology Park, coordinating and executing entity of the Canary Islands Geo Innovation 2030 earth observation and communications program, which initiated the participation in the event.

"The Canary Islands have a combination of advantages to become a hub for the aerospace industry, being the Spanish territory with the largest airspace and a long tradition in space observation," explain from Proexca.

In addition to being a border territory between Europe and Africa, it has an advantageous economic and fiscal regime that makes companies more competitive, as well as the academic ecosystem and the talent that is being developed. All this in an archipelago that offers a diversity of possibilities to the new space industry by virtue of the advantages offered by the different islands.

Institute of Astrophysics and Fuerteventura Technology Park

The Canary Islands are currently developing their Aerospace Strategy, which, among other objectives, will enhance their capabilities to enable the development and deployment of projects and initiatives in the aerospace field.

The Canary Islands Institute of Astrophysics plays a key role in this, a center of excellence for research that manages two of the most important observatories internationally and whose mission is to carry out and promote any type of astrophysical research, as well as develop and transfer its technology and disseminate astronomical knowledge.

On the other hand, the manager of the Fuerteventura Technology Park, Eduardo Pereira, had the opportunity to present the Canarias Stratoport for HAPS & UAS, or the ISSEC Center (International Center for Emergencies, Safety, Security, Biodiversity and other missions).

Both centers in Majorera are publicly owned infrastructures that aim to become a European center for innovation, integration, validation, simulation and operation of dual solutions and technologies through unmanned aerial systems (UAS, Unmanned Aerial Systems), both stratospheric (HAPS, High Altitude Pseudo-Satellites), as atmospheric of long duration and flight altitude (HALE, High Altitude and Long Endurance).

This Center allows the efficient operation of UAS multiplatform systems, offering an innovative, sustainable and complementary alternative to traditional satellites, with advantages in terms of operational flexibility, cost reduction and lower environmental impact.

At the ISSEC Center, data will be received from the embedded payloads, its Data Analytics processing and the operation of innovative solutions in the field of emergencies, security, defense, communications, dual technologies or biodiversity, among others. These infrastructures and the development of strategic projects in the Canary Islands Geo Innovation 2030 program offer a unique opportunity to companies and entrepreneurs in the aerospace field and unmanned aerial systems UAS.

The Seville agenda included two face-to-face sessions (March 17 and 18) at the Cartuja Auditorium, managed by Yventu, and three virtual sessions (March 19, 20 and 21). All the presentations will be available for on-demand viewing through El Observatorio, Medina Media Events' digital platform, where each intervention will be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for free.

The first edition of “New Space & Solutions” is organized by Medina Media Events in collaboration with the Seville City Council and the Junta de Andalucía and has the support of Rohde & Schwarz, ALTER, Ansys, Augusta Abogados, CT Ingenieros, DEKRA, Integrasys, Parsec, Proexca Government of the Canary Islands, Space-Aero, Loyola Andalucía University, CEU Fernando III University, among others.
