Shopping, comparing products, making a bank transfer, requesting a medical appointment, managing an insurance claim, or carrying out a procedure with the Administration are some examples of tasks in our daily routine.

Digital innovation has become an ally and has changed the way millions of people manage their day-to-day lives, becoming an option that saves time, reduces travel, and increases convenience by resolving tasks that just a few years ago required in-person attention.

According to the I Digitalization Barometer, prepared by Línea Directa, Canarians estimate that carrying out their daily tasks with commerce, the bank, insurance, and the Public Administration through digital channels allows them to save 256.6 hours each year, the equivalent of more than ten days, and 3,105 euros, above the national average (177 hours and 2,140 euros).

The study confirms the high degree of digital maturity reached by Spanish society. In this regard, the report confirms that 95% of citizens already carry out some type of online transaction each week and 7 out of 10 perceive clear advantages in using this channel, mainly saving time.

In these procedures, the mobile phone is "the king of digital transactions", as 91% use the smartphone for them, compared to 70% who use the computer. Among the most common procedures are searching for information before buying (87%), carrying out specific transactions in online banking (85%), and tracking an order (84%), among others.

Public Administration, Commerce, Banking, and Insurance

The study addresses the relationship with digitalization in four specific sectors: commerce, banking, insurance, and public administration.

Respondents claim to carry out an average of 5.4 digital transactions per week in these four areas. The analysis shows that the banking sector (39.4 minutes) and the insurance sector (38.7) are the sectors in which citizens perceive the greatest time savings when digitizing the most common tasks, while in administration and commerce, this time saving is 38 and 32.6 minutes respectively. Overall, the average saving per transaction stands at 38 minutes in Spain and 50.4 minutes in the Canary Islands, above the average.

When this time saving is translated into the money that citizens would be willing to pay for it (see methodological sheet), differences are also perceived from one sector to another. Banking leads the analysis with an average saving of 85.5 euros per month, followed at a distance by insurance (33 euros), retail (29.6 euros), and the Public Administration (27.2 euros).

By type of management, in banking, a deeply transactional sector, inquiries about movements and balances predominate (94%); in the Public Administration, specific procedures stand out, such as managing prior appointments or filing income tax returns, while in the retail sector, usage is closely linked to purchasing (86%).

Regarding the insurance sector, 80.4% of Canary Islanders already carry out digital transactions with their insurer, above the national average (77%). The most common are consulting the policy (48%), reporting a claim (38%), and tracking a claim (36%). By branches, health insurance reaches 17.7% of habitual use, almost double that of home (9.8%) and car (9.3%).

What policyholders value most is knowing that a professional is available if the situation requires it.
