The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands has published the calls for applications for aid for local origin cow's milk production and for the dairy industry, within the framework of action III.4 of the Canary Islands Agricultural Production Support Community Program (POSEI), corresponding to the 2026 campaign, for a total amount of 13,420,000 euros.
The head of the area, Narvay Quintero, highlighted the importance of these measures to promote the production and consumption of local milk, as well as the commitment made by the regional Executive since the previous campaign to make payments on a semi-annual basis instead of annual, "so that we facilitate the economic management of their farms for our farmers".
Within this line of support, an allocation of 6,420,000 euros is included for aid to local origin cow's milk producers, corresponding to sub-action III.4.2. This measure contemplates an amount of 123 euros per ton of whole local origin cow's milk delivered to the dairy industry for the production of dairy products, a sum that rises to 133 euros per ton for farms located on non-capital islands.
Likewise, beneficiaries of subsidies for the installation of young farmers and ranchers from the Rural Development Program (RDP) or the CAP Strategic Plan (PEPAC) will receive a 10% supplement.
Regarding the dairy industry, sub-action III.4.1 has a total amount of 7,000,000 euros and establishes aid of 132 euros per ton of whole local origin cow's milk intended for the production of products by the industry.
For quantities of milk purchased from farmers, and/or produced by them, used in the production of products eligible for aid between January 1 and June 30, 2026, applications must be submitted by July 31, 2026 through the Electronic Headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands.
For quantities of milk purchased or produced between July 1 and December 31, 2026, the application submission period will be from January 1 to January 31, 2027.
