Facilitating access to and use of digital technologies and expanding the opportunities they offer to citizens is one of the objectives of the 2026 Action Program of the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), a management center attached to the Ministry of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands. To advance in this area, 13,874,613.50 euros are allocated to the Information Society Deployment axis.
This investment is aimed at extending the digital capabilities of the Canary Islands, strengthening technological infrastructures and services, and enabling citizens, businesses, and public entities to take advantage of the opportunities offered by digital transformation.
The actions also contribute to reducing digital and territorial divides, improving the skills of the population, and supporting the transformation of the Canary Islands' economic fabric, in connection with the processes of ecological and digital transition.
Infrastructure, training, and strategic projects
The 2026 Action Program includes measures aimed at both improving citizens' digital capabilities and promoting strategic innovation and technological transformation projects.
Among the main lines of action are digital literacy and training programs, as well as specific initiatives to advance in reducing the digital divide, including the gender gap.
The deployment of the Information Society also incorporates innovation and digital transformation flagship projects, including initiatives such as Spain Living Lab and Retechfor, aimed at developing new capabilities and technological solutions with an impact on various areas of society and the economy.
The Plan also includes specific actions linked to the territory and the Canary Islands' R&D&I ecosystem, such as measures to mitigate the digital divide in Fuerteventura, support for the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands (ITC) for the development of R&D&I projects, collaboration with the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) for the execution of the Horvican project, and the promotion of the digital transformation of PLOCAN.
The Information Society axis is part of a global strategy that is complemented by actions in human capital, basic and applied research, and business innovation, included in the ACIISI 2026 Action Program.
