Puertos Canarios, dependent on the Department of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, has announced the preliminary project for the remodeling of the port of Órzola and to create a station only for passengers, separated from the fishing area.
In the infographic released this Tuesday, Puertos Canarios has announced that the preliminary project to remodel the Órzola station consists of three parts: an arrival area for passenger docking, the terminal where passengers will be directly led to the ship, and the port facilities where the offices will be located.
The new terminal will have an area of 250 square meters, compared to the current 152 square meters, 64.5% more. To which is added a usable area, where there will be a waiting room and other services that will reach 226 square meters, compared to the current 131 square meters, a growth of 72.5%.
Among other measures, the institution proposes a design similar to the one already implemented on the Playa Blanca pier. The facade will be composed of white structures of square and rectangular shapes, with glass panels and volcanic stones on the exterior.
The institution has announced that it is going to create a passenger terminal separate from the fishing activity carried out in the area. The managing director of Puertos Canarios has announced that until now the coexistence between both points "is complex" and the Canarian Executive wants to install a new pier for fishing and "its own operational area".
At the moment, Puertos de Canarias has not informed whether this remodeling, which will increase the surface area, will mean an increase in the port's capacity to accommodate more passengers.
The port of Playa Blanca will receive its great cruise ship in November
The managing director of Canarian Ports, José Gilberto Moreno, has visited Lanzarote with the aim of announcing that the Port of Playa Blanca, which receives 1,185,000 passengers annually, will receive its first large cruise ship in November, a vessel two hundred and seven meters long that is currently in a shipyard and will debut on its way to the island of Lanzarote. As he explained, this operation will mean the arrival of thousands of passengers; a milestone for a non-capital port.
The managing director also indicated that the coordination and availability of the necessary technical services for the operation of luxury yachts and superyachts in Playa Blanca has already been agreed with the competent authorities, with the service charter enabled, and that the facilities are completed for their reception after the remodeling of the terminal and the surroundings. Puertos de Canarias has launched the tender through public competition to operate the port's cafeteria.
In Puerto del Carmen, Moreno explained that they are in a process of ceding to the town hall the sports courts and children's leisure area, in addition to reorganizing the services of gas station, catering and sports services for coexistence with the playful-festive atmosphere.
After the continuous usual celebration of festive events in the port area, in a consolidated coexistence with the local administration, he/she/it underlined the need to provide services and offer an adequate and balanced response to this type of event.
In summary, he pointed to lines such as the future construction of public restrooms, reorganization of internal circulation and parking, and updating of the water and electricity supply towers.
